Castell de Castells

History

The origin of Castell de Castells dates back to the prehistoric age, as the painting of Petracos represents. Moorish area of open land and remains of a castle are preserved; they are mute witnessed of a muslim settlement.

The town was conquered by Jaime I troops and it has changed hands several times. Finally, in the XIVth Century, it was incorporated in the dominions of the Order of Calatrava.

A special award for the 2003 touristic merits to the Castell de Castells city council because of the preservation of its historical and cultural heritage.

  • Parish church of Santa Ana. It dates back to the XVIIth Century. We find it in the town square.

Santuary of the Pla de Petracos - Mankind heritage.

Site of cave painting discovered in 1,980. It is represented in four macro-schematic figures about 7,000 years old. Close to the above mentioned we can find a representation of an injured deer (2,000 years old).
