Alcanali - Alcalali

History

The origins of human being in the municipal area of Alcalali date back to the prehistoric times, with the discovery of a schematic human figure painting in Seguill. It is cruciform.

In historical times, the first mention of the area, dates back to the Muslim age (1020). With the town's conquest in 1245 by the troops of Jaime I, giving it to the Berenguela princess in 1268. In 1409, it became independent and in 1577 was erected the first parish church of Xaló. In 1616, the barony of Alcalali was created the first baron being Ximen Pérez Rois of Lion and Pertusa.

Monuments

  • Town Hall Square, with a Town Hall building built on the site of an arcade.
  • Parish Church of The Natividad de Nuestra Señora (The Nativity of Our Lady), XVIIIth Century.
  • Noble Tower (XVIth Century). It constitutes the last trace of the barony palace. Currently, it is the headquarters of the Museum of Pasa and the Town Archive. Viewpoint of the Valley.
  • Hermitage of the Virgin of the Calvary.

  • Little house that indicates the Greenwich Meridian in Liosa of Camatxo.

Economy

A residential tourism explosion has been experienced in the last decade in the Alcalali area. It benefits all of the business sectors in the area especially those related the service and construction sectors.
